Founded: 2007

Establishment works of Özyeğin University has started in 2005 fall by Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation.

During the establishment, "Research of Developing Sectors and Professions in Turkey and in the World" was conducted with the participation of more than 500 business people, professors, college and high school students. Based on the conclusions of the research, university's fundamental values and vision argued among all participants while the design studies were carried out by ARAMA Participatory Management Consulting. the The vision of the Özyeğin University was started to take shape through the workshops with the participation of more than 300 business people, professors, college students and new graduates. 


According to this vision, Özyeğin University's contemprorary education system aims to support social devolopment by generating unique, creative and useful knowledge.


In line with these targets,  Özyeğin University will welcome its first students at its Altunizade campus, İstanbul in September 2008 and will be a major "campus university" in few years time.

Launched in 1990 under the leadership Hüsnü M. Özyeğin, the Finans Foundation has been continuing its activities under the name "Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation" since April 2005.

 

The founding objectives of the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation are summarized below:

 

  • Provide financial support to university students on their education both in Turkey and abroad and encourage their personal development
  • Establish educational institutions in various cities where most needed to enrich the Turkish National Education system,
  • Support educational and cultural development of Turkey.

The foundation aims to contribute to the development of Turkey through support to education, culture and health. It has provided financial aid for over 9,700 students, constructed and donated 56 schools, dormitories and social facilities, undertaken several prominent cultural restoration projects and most recently founded Özyeğin University.

 

Within the context of the "Campaign for Support to Computer-Aided Education" run by the Ministry of National Education under the 100% Support to Education Project, Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation has donated 4.003 computers to the Ministry of National Education and built 200 computer laboratories.

 

In addition to the activities in educational area, the Foundation also started the restoration of Galata Mevlevi Lodge in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, in order to contribute to cultural heritage.

 

The Foundation focuses its activities on educational, health care and cultural areas in accordance with the expression: "Investing in the future of a nation's people is the most valuable kind of investment." Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation will continue to invest in individuals in the future for a respected and accomplished society.

 

 

MOTHER CHILD EDUCATION FOUNDATION

The Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV) is a Turkish NGO founded in 1993 with the initiative of founding president Aysen Ozyegin and in light of the scientific research of Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı and Prof. Dr. Sevda Bekman with a mission to empower people through education and enable them to improve the quality of their lives.

 

AÇEV conducts research and develops and implements programs in its two main areas of expertise: early childhood and adult education and implements programs for socio-economically disadvantaged preschool aged children and their families.
AÇEV implements early childhood education, parenting, literacy/women's support programs using a variety of models and mediums (home-based, center-based, television). All of AÇEV's programs are based on scientific premises, developed in partnership with academics from reputable universities and thoroughly evaluated for outcome and impact.

 

In order to expand and sustain its programs AÇEV partners with local and international NGO's and organizations, governmental agencies, universities and private companies. AÇEV programs are implemented across Turkey at 78 cities, as well as in several European and Middle Eastern countries and have reached 410,000 individuals and trained 5,000 instructors and teachers to date. AÇEV also implemented "7 is too late" campaign in order to call the public attention on the importance of education within the first 6 years of life.


AÇEV'S PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS
Mother Child Education Program:
A home-based, preschool and parent education program, targeting socio-economically disadvantaged mothers of 6 year olds. Developed to empower mothers by supporting them in their parenting roles and equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary for fostering the cognitive development of their children.


Women's Empowerment and Literacy Program:
A three month long intensive literacy and empowerment program which focuses not only on imparting functional literacy skills but also on raising awareness on topics such as women's/human rights, legal rights, women's and children's health, communication, positive discipline, gender equality, children's rights-especially in relation to child labor and girls education and social participation.

 

Preschool Parent-Child Education Program:
A program that includes 6 years old preschool children, parents and teachers
. The aim is to strengthen the cooperation between two main areas of the children, home and school.

 

Father Support Program:
A program developed for fathers of 2-10 year old children and a
ims to encourage and support fathers to take a more positive and active role in their child's development. The aim of the program is to support fathers to improve the communication with their children and to inform fathers about child care and health issues.

 

Mother Support Program:
Mother Support Program (MSP) is a training program geared toward mothers with children between the ages of 3 and 9. The program aims to contribute to children's development, strengthen the mother-child relationship, and provide mothers with information and support on child development and chil
d rearing.

 

Summer Nursery School and Mother Support Programs:
These
programs are developed for mothers with children of 5-6 ages group, who lives in low social-economic areas. These summer schools take 10 weeks of period and give children an opportunity to get higher standard of education and to support children in social, cognitive and physical ways.


Parents Seminars:
Developed to inform parents about their roles and importance on their children's development, child-rearing, parenting and communication within the family for parents of school-age children.


'7 is Too Late'
The "7 is Too Late" campaign aims to enable each child in Turkey to get at least one year of education prior to formal enrollment in the state school system. This public awareness campaign was launched by AÇEV in partnership with other leading NGOs of the world.
